EKITI: Impeached Speaker Drags PDP Lawmakers to Court

The lingering drama going on in the Ekiti State House of Assembly has taken a new turn as the impeached Speaker; Dr. Adewale Omirin has dragged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers to court.

The embattled Speaker and his deputy, Tunji Orisalade, approached an Abuja Federal High Court to seek restoration of all their rights and privileges, Punch reports.

The speaker and his deputy were both removed from office on Thursday 10 persons who sat in the chambers, among whom were three individuals whose identities are yet to be known.

However, a member of the PDP caucus, Mr. Dele Olugbemi, who had acted as intern Speaker at the controversial Monday’s plenary, was reportedly elected as the new Speaker of the House.

The PDP lawmakers also replaced the deputy speaker, Orisalade with a female lawmaker, Mrs. Abeni Olayinka, representing Ado Constituency 2, who recently defected from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the PDP.

Meanwhile, the APC in a reaction branded the three as ‘fake legislators and impersonators,’ and challened the seven PDP lawmakers to disclose their identities.

In the originating summons with suit no FHC/ Abj/Cs/885/14 filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, the plaintiffs presented 12 prayers before the court. The originating summons is supported with a 14-paragraph affidavit deposed to by Mr. Patrick Bisong, a litigation clerk in the chambers of Tunji Abayomi and Co.
