The All Progressives Congress (APC) Director of Strategy, Dele Alake, has said that the party’s presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, would not attend the presidential debate organised by Channels Television, Arise TV and NPAN.
Mr Alake made this declaration on Channels Television while appearing as a guest on the flagship breakfast programme, Sunrise daily.
Alake accused some Nigerian media organisations of being compromised.
He said that he could not vouch for the independence of some of the organisers of the debate.
Alake, who was once the Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State between 1999 – 2007, however, would not disclose those he claimed have been compromised.
The Jonathan/Sambo 2015 Presidential Campaign Organisation has, however, informed the organisers that President Jonathan “has accepted to participate in the debate.”
This was contained in a letter by the Director-General of the campaign organisation, Senator Ahmadu Ali.
The debate, which was initiated by and ARISE Television and Channels Television, THISDAY and Guardian Newspapers Limited on behalf the Newspapers Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), is scheduled to hold at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
It has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 3 as part of the build-up to the February 14 elections. Source Channels TV
