Foreign Aid: Goodluck Jonathan Advises African Nations

Nigeria’s former president, Goodluck Jonathan has stated that foreign aid can never help African countries grow their economy. 
Jonathan made the remark when the Hope Global Forums hosted him on Friday, January 15 in Atlanta Georgia, United States of America.

Jonathan said: ”Foreign aid can never help Africa grow its economy. It can only help you exist vegetatively. All African nations need to come together to build unity and advance peace within the continent.”
Jonathan also opined that the African continent has to embrace peace in order to have economic prosperity and development that will benefit Africans.

He said: ”Without peace, there cannot be development and without development we cannot fulfill the dreams of our founding fathers for political and economic independence.
”Economic independence is a target we must all aspire to, which in turn should lead us to the next level in the continum of maturity, which is interdependence amongst Africans.”
Recall that Jonathan conceded defeat to incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari, via a phone call even before the results of the presidential elections were announced.

That singular seem act seem to have elevated the status of the Otuoke-born politician to a global citizen and as a reference for African leaders, who are known for holding on to power for too long.
