The University of Jos has been ranked as the 7th best university in Nigeria and also, the second best second generation University in Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a statement from the Principal Assistant Registrar, Information and Publications, University of Jos, Mr Abdullahi Abdullahi and made available to Edufrica on Monday.
The statement indicates that The 2015 ranking of Nigerian Universities, released by the National Universities Commission (NUC) has the University of Jos in the second category only after the University of Ilorin among second generation Universities in the Country.
The second generation Universities are the twelve Universities established between 1970 and 1985 to meet the increasing need for University education in Nigeria especially in the area of Science and Technology.
University of Jos was however ranked 7th in the overall ranking of all Federal, State and Private Universities in Nigeria, trailing way behind the University of Ibadan which was ranked as the overall first position while Covenant University was rated as the best private University in Nigeria.
The NUC is responsible for laying down minimum academic standards, accreditation of degree programmes and other academic awards as well as maintaining quality assurance among Nigerian Universities.
