Barely 48 hours after the killing of an All Progressives Congress (APC) ward chairman in Rivers State, another chieftain of the party was killed and burnt on Monday
Some thugs who were alleged to be political thugs of the opposition party reportedly went on rampage and in the process killed and burnt Mr. Ofinjite Amachree, an APC Chieftain in Asari-Toru LGA.
The thugs were said to have attacked Amachree, beaten him to a coma before setting him ablaze.
The state’s Publicity Secretary of the party, Chris Finebone in a statement in Port Harcourt said that “an APC member by name Tubotamuno Wariso was also attacked and beaten to death at Opobo Town, Opobo/Nkoro LGA by known cult boys.”
It would be recalled that Franklin Obi, an APC chieftain was killed and beheaded by assailants in his home. His wife and son were also killed.
According to Finebone, “The APC believes that the present killings are part of the scare tactics of the PDP, something the state governor, Nyesom Wike referred to after his Supreme Court victory.
“He had said that if the annulment of his election was upheld by the Supreme Court, so many people would have died in Rivers State. We are rather surprised that even with the affirmation of his election by the Supreme Court, many people are already being killed in Rivers State because of the national and state legislative rerun elections scheduled for March 19.”
