Army Explains Delay In Capturing Seized Towns

The Nigerian Army has attributed its delay in recapturing some towns seized by terrorist group, Boko Haram to the need to avoid and reduce the collateral damage that will occur after such exercise.
The Army’s position was explained by its Director of Public Relations, Brig-Gen. Olajide Laleye, while answering questions from journalists at a press briefing in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

He said:“We are not interested in collateral damage.
“The Nigeria Army is very careful about collateral damage, to that extent our operations are carefully planned to make sure that collateral damage is reduced to the barest minimum.
“If certain areas have not been recaptured it is because the Nigerian army is giving such areas very careful plans, the plans are ongoing.
“At the right time you will see the outcome; we will not tell you, of course, before hand, of what we intend to do; but you will see the outcome,’’  He concluded.
He assured  Nigerians that they will be pleased at the end of such operations because  collateral damage will be reduced to the barest minimum.
He expressed confidence that law abiding Nigerians resident in such areas would be rescued from the insurgents, while the towns and villages will be  completely free from the leadership of the terrorists.

In a related development, no fewer than 41 Boko Haram insurgents were killed by Cameroon’s army along the country’s border with Nigeria 2 days ago.
